I supposed I chose the wrong time to start posting on social media again last month, just as autumn color was about to hit a peak. I’ve been out taking advantage of one of the most beautiful fall seasons that I can remember. We had some snow in the mountains and beautiful color in the valleys. This year it seemed to last much longer than usual and I tried to really take advantage of it as I photographed locally but also made trips to Glacier and Grand Teton National Parks. The cottonwood tree in this image is a favorite subject of mine. It usually hits peak color much later than other areas and this photo was taken on October 8th. I prefer to have some clouds in the sky and, despite the nice light and color, almost didn’t stop to explore around the old tree. But I noticed the fog from a nearby lake was slowly wisping this way, so I thought I’d wait it out. I was able to shoot a lot of different compositions as the fog moved through with this ultimately being one of my favorites.
